Machadodorp SAPS voted “Top Cop Shop”

It’s official! Machadodorp SAPS is the top police station in Mpumalanga – and they have the trophies to prove it! In a recent awards ceremony held in Ermelo, Machadodorp Station Commander, Lt. Sikhumbuzo Thele and his team of dedicated police officers, beat out 85 other police stations throughout Mpumalanga to scoop the prestigious title.

In fact, Machado’s “boys in blue”, swept the board in no fewer than three different categories – including best Community Policing Forum (CPF) in the province – and came home with beaming smiles and an armful of trophies and certificates as testament to their sterling performance and dedication to duty.

In a recent interview, THG asked Lt. Thele to elaborate on the SAPS monitoring, inspection and rating process that resulted in his command’s win – as well as his “secret to success”. With a broad smile, Machado’s tall and friendly station commander related: “It’s all down to communication. Just that. Communication with all officers under my command, as well as communication with residents and community members.” He went on to mention that the criteria utilised to monitor the performance and efficiency of any particular police station are indeed stringent. “All stations in the province are automatically entered in the annual competition as part of normal SAPS monitoring and on-going performance evaluation process. 86 police stations in Mpumalanga alone is indeed stiff competition!”, he added. “The inspection process itself is, in fact, a rigorous three day process. An inspection team may arrive, without prior warning, at any time. All aspects and procedures of the station are thoroughly inspected and evaluated and we must be prepared at all times – never mind!” Lt. Thele said.

Machado’s “top cop” went on to praise and add a special message of thanks to the Machadodorp CPF in recognition of their achievement in also attaining “No. 1 CPF” in the province. “Without the tireless efforts of the dedicated members of Machado’s hard working and efficient CPF, nothing would be possible. It is only in an environment of co-operation with dedicated residents that the SAPS can make a real difference in people’s lives. Thank you to all! Machado SAPS will, with your help, continue to fight crime on all fronts.”

THG heartily endorses those words and, apart from offering our own congratulations to Lt. Thele and the members of Machado SAPS, would further like to add, on behalf of the community as a whole, a very loud “Well done Guys! We are proud of you!”
