Dullstroom Bird of Prey Centre relaunches

Established in 1977, the Dullstroom Bird of Prey & Rehabilitation centre has been a staple in tourism in the Dullstrooom area. Offering visitors the opportunity to both interact and learn about birds of prey, the centre has traditionally been very popular. Unfortunately over the past few months the centre has suffered a run of bad luck with Mark Holder, former owner, being too ill to fully manage it.
This is, until last week, the good news is that the centre is now under new management. “”We are busy in the process of finalising the purchase of the centre,” said Sandra Pretorius, “we have spent the last few weeks cleaning up the facilities, remodelling the cages and getting advice from various handlers on how to best manage the birds. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to experience first-hand what it is like to hold a real live bird of prey.”

Taking over the responsibility of the centre are two dedicated individuals – Sandra Pretorius and Frith Douglas, and, in addition to the two new owners, a full –time Falcon Handler, Magdali Theron, who holds her certification in Facloneering.

Visit them just outside Dullstroom for an experience not often found. Call Sandra on 072 502 1519, or visit their website on www.birdsofprey.co.za – you won’t be sorry you took the time.
