Assmang Chrome Honours ‘Top Cops’

As has been extensively and proudly reported in local media, the Machadodorp SAPS has been voted the best police station in the whole of Mpumalanga! Not only that, but the Machado Community Policing Forum (CPF) also scooped the award for best Mpumalanga CPF at the same time. A cause for celebration indeed! So, at a gala evening function held in their honour recently in Machadodorp, Assmang Chrome – Machadodorp Works made full use of the opportunity to praise and reward our local “men and ladies in blue” for all their hard work and long hours in keeping our local communities safe.

It was a case of “smiles all round” as station Commander Lt. Sikhumbuzo Thele led many of his loyal officers into the glittering venue. Numerous invited guests and local dignitaries jockeyed for position to raise a glass in praise of our dedicated policemen and women. The evening’s festivities kicked off with the ever-popular event MC, Pastor Chris Nkosi, leading the audience in prayer before various speakers took to the podium to laud the Machado SAPS’s great achievement in beating out no fewer than 85 other police stations in Mpumalanga to scoop the top honours. Hearty congratulations were delivered, amongst others, by none other than Emakhazeni’s own “first citizen”, his honour, the mayor Clr. XS Ngwenya, before Assmang Chrome’s SGM, Mr. Ashley McLeod added his heartfelt congratulations to Lt. Thele’s worthy officers.

As supper was about to be served and the speeches were beginning to come to an end, a surprise announcement was made that brought the entire gathering to its feet in applause. No less a dignitary than the Mpumalanga SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Ntobela, accompanied by a number of senior SAPS officers, had taken time out of his busy schedule and travelled hundreds of kilometres to make a special effort to attend the awards dinner for Lt. Thele and his officers. As individual officers received their well-earned certificates and trophies, the Machado SAPS service centre also received a number of items such as a brand-new microwave oven, etc. to make their lives just that little bit easier in the future. In closing, all present were united in the praise and thanks to the men and women of SAPS Machadodorp – WELL DONE TO ALL!
